The Dick Chalmers Music Venue Program is an initiative to better serve staff of music venues across Central Texas with access to mental health care and substance use recovery services.
Formed in memory of Dick Chalmers, a co-creator of the program and longtime ambassador for the Red River Cultural District in Downtown Austin, the Music Venue Program is a fund to support the ongoing provision of mental healthcare services to members of the music venue community, recognizing that often times venue staff do not have access to health benefits and are frequently prone to mental health challenges, given the demands of the line of work.
Founded in 1995, the SIMS Foundation supports the emotional wellbeing of our local music community, and we know that the vibrancy of our city’s live music culture is not just dependent on musicians, but on all of the people behind the scenes – like lighting technicians, sound engineers, venue staff, and so on – who work tirelessly to bring it to life.
Dick was a passionate advocate for the Red River Cultural District and all of the establishments in the area. Through his kindness, authenticity, and open-armed approach to life, Dick was a friend to everyone he met and left a lasting impact on each person who was lucky enough to be in his orbit.
Celebrate Dick’s legacy on Austin with a gift to the Music Venue Program today.
Thank you for supporting our music community so they can thrive!
